Who Were Europe's First Farmers? After about 7000 BC, farming in Europe began in the Aegean, after spreading from Anatolia, and then spread across Europe in two main waves. One across the Mediterranean coasts all the way to Iberia. The other through the Balkans and into Central Europe. Painted Pottery communities represent the local development of early European agriculture, rooted in Near Eastern–derived Neolithic farmers who had already spread across much of Europe. 🦴 Physical characteristics Skeletal analysis shows
